Provider Recognition

Important notice

From 1 July 2009, important changes regarding complementary and alternative therapy providers came into effect. From that date, private health insurers will only pay benefits to policy holders where the provider meets criteria set out in the Private Health Insurance (PHI) Accreditation Rules. To be recognised as a provider with ahm, providers must belong to an organisation or association which has been approved by ahm as meeting the accreditation standards specified in the PHI Accreditation Rules.

Click here to access ahm’s list of approved provider associations and professional organisations. We encourage you to review this list and then contact the relevant association directly to discuss requirements for membership with them.

Recognising a provider - a health professional who provides extras (ancillary) services - means we get specific details and credentials to make sure they meet our criteria for health insurance benefit payment. All extras providers must be recognised by ahm before we can pay benefits.
