Recognising a provider - a health professional who provides extras (ancillary) services - means we get specific details and credentials to make sure they meet our criteria for health insurance benefit payment. All extras providers must be registered with the health fund before we can pay benefits.

Applying for Recognition with ahm

Board Registered Providers

Chiropractor, Dental Technician, Dentist (general and specialist), Midwife, Optical Dispenser, Optometrist, Osteopath, Physiotherapist, Podiatrist.

You should have a degree in the relevant discipline and membership with the appropriate State Registration Board.

If you're registered with your Registration Board, ahm would normally recognise you when we get your details from the Board. If you're unsure of your status, or wish to change your details, email us or call 134 246 and ask to speak with one of our Provider Liaison Officers.

Other Board Registered or Association Member Providers

Dietitian, Occupational Therapist, Orthoptist, Orthotist, Psychologist, Speech Therapist.

You should have a degree in the relevant discipline and membership with the appropriate State Registration Board or Association.

ahm requires your HIC number (if relevant) and details of your indemnity insurance.

If you're registered with your Registration Board or a member of the appropriate State Association, you may already be recognised by ahm. If you're unsure of your status, email us or call 134 246 and ask to speak with one of our Provider Liaison Officers.

Natural and Alternative Therapy Providers

Acupuncturist, Biochemist, Bowen Therapist, Herbalist, Homeopath, Hypnotherapist, Myotherapy, Naturopath, Nutritionist, Reflexologist, Remedial Masseuse, Shiatsu Therapy.

You should possess a diploma in the relevant discipline from an approved Australian educational institution (or overseas equivalent).

ahm also requires information about your indemnity insurance and first aid certification.

To be recognised for Hypnotherapy you must be a registered psychologist with qualifications in hypnotherapy.

To be recognised for Remedial Massage you must have completed a minimum of 500 hours coursework in gaining your qualifications.

Other Natural and Alternative Therapy Providers

Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Kinesiology, Pilates (1-on-1), Rolfing.

You should possess a qualification to Practitioner Level from an approved Australian educational institution.

ahm also requires information about your indemnity insurance and first aid certification.

To be recognised for Pilates you must be trained to Professional Practitioner Level 2 (minimum of 7,500 hours) .
