Maternity Options

Thanks to the Maternity Options Program, not only do you get to leave hospital earlier after the birth of your baby but we can also help you by providing a range of support services for you at home.

What is the Maternity Options program?

If you are pregnant, our Maternity Options program allows you to leave hospital early after the birth of your baby, if clinically appropriate. If eligible, you will also receive a range of support services in your own home. To qualify, your stay must be in a participating hospital and must be at least 2 nights.

How can we help you?

Our program coordinators are Registered Nurses who work with your doctor and hospital staff to provide a range of support services that make your hospitalisation and recovery easier and more comfortable. These services can include:
  • general and specialist nursing
  • personal care
  • cleaning
  • meals and transport
If it is not possible to coordinate services to a level that your doctor is happy with, you will remain in hospital for the duration of your recovery.

You may also be eligible to join our Total Health for Pregnancy program which provides information and support from pre-conception until your baby’s first birthday.

Who can enrol on this program?

You are eligible to participate in the Maternity Options program if:
  • You are going to hospital to have a baby.
  • Your hospital stay is longer than two nights.
  • You have hospital cover with Australian Health Management and you've served your waiting periods.
  • Your doctor and the hospital staff consider it appropriate for you to leave hospital early.

Contact the fund as soon as you know you will be going to hospital to see if this program can assist you.

Please contact our Health Consultants by email or phone 134 246, to find out if your hospital participates in this program and to confirm that this program is right for you.
