Our Company

Since our foundation in 1971, ahm has recognised that health insurance is more than just looking after our members when they are sick. ahm’s vision is to lead the health industry in Australia in providing affordable and sustainable access to services that optimise good health. We believe that the key to doing this successfully lies in employing the best people.

There is now an increasing focus on the importance of healthy lifestyles and health risk prevention by Government, private companies and the health insurance industry. ahm has been at the forefront of this change and we are leading the industry in designing and delivering health management initiatives that provide a measurable and tangible impact on productivity, health and wellbeing.

Our customised health solutions are now offered to private companies across Australia and thousands of ahm members are also receiving our expert support to improve their health.

ahm is also a leading private health insurance provider, operating its own Dental and Eyecare Practices and providing Overseas Students Health Cover to more than 25,000 international students.

We operate from 4 locations in NSW. The ahm head office, based in Wollongong, houses our Member Services, Marketing, Corporate Services, Information Services and Health Management divisions.

ahm’s Dental & Eyecare Practices, located at Haymarket, Parramatta and Wagga Wagga, provide members and private patients with high quality dental and optical services and eyewear at competitive prices.

Our People

To achieve our business goals, ahm needs a productive workforce that is committed to delivering exceptional customer service. Our people strategy focuses on two critical aspects – ongoing professional development and staff health. This is underpinned by a set of leadership markers which outline the behaviours that ahm encourages within its staff.

ahm Challenge of Management Program

Our Challenge of Management program provides managers with targeted learning opportunities based on their skills and development areas. This program provides further training in areas such as people management, staff development and effective leadership.

ahm Corporate Wellness Program

ahm also has a dedicated program to look after the health, wellbeing and safety of staff. Our program embraces the physical and psychological wellbeing of our employees through a yearly calendar of healthy activities and competitions, access to current health information and support in setting and achieving health goals. The health calendar includes activities such as yoga, Pilates, boxing and circuit workouts plus team and individual challenges, flu vaccines, massages, a quit smoking program and health expos.

ahm Mentor Dentist Program for Graduate Dentists

We are proactively addressing the national dentist shortage through our two year mentor program for graduating dentists. We provide a structured, supportive learning environment for these graduates with mentoring and coaching from our extensively experienced dentists and support staff.

The ahm Mentor Program includes:

  • scholarships for final year dental students
  • orientation at the start of the program
  • a wide range of clinical experience
  • multi-surgery facilities with specialists, general practitioners (GPs), hygienists, prosthetists & educators
  • experienced GPs as mentors
  • experienced dental assistants
  • a graduated structure for the first 12 months to support development
  • allocated time for discussions with mentors
  • periodic meetings with other new graduates in the program
  • participation in professional development, including rotary endo training
  • participation in peer reviews.

Our Recruitment Process

The ahm recruitment and selection process involves 4 stages: application, panel interview, assessment and offer of employment. Candidates will be notified of the outcome of their application at each stage of the process.
