Hospital Cover & Ancillary Cover

Hospital Cover and Ancillary Cover combines benefits for hospital and ancillary (extras) services. It covers you for theatre and accommodation fees, ambulance, heart procedures, hip and knee joint replacements and much more. To keep the premium lower, this cover is also available with a Level 5 co-payment.

This product also pays 100% of the cost incurred for general ancillary items and 60-80% of the cost for dental items (up to a specified benefit), subject to financial year limits.

Note: Hospital Cover & Ancillary Cover or Hospital Cover Level 5 & Ancillary Cover are not available for purchase or for change of cover.

What you're covered for

The hospital component of your Hospital Cover and Ancillary Cover includes the following:

• Medical gap (refer to the policy document for more information)
• Accommodation* – private or shared room
• Operating theatre*
• Intensive care*
• Obstetrics
• Labour ward
• Fertility treatments – eg. IVF and GIFT programs (inpatient services only)
• Hip and knee joint replacements
• Major eye surgery
• Psychiatric services
• Rehabilitation
• Palliative Care
• Cardio-thoracic procedures, including open heart and bypass surgery and invasive cardiac procedures such as angiograms
• Surgically implanted prosthesis – this policy covers the cost of any No Gap prostheses and the minimum benefit for Gap Permitted prostheses
• Ambulance transport

* Except for restricted services

Restricted Services

We'll pay the default benefit only for restricted services and services not covered by Medicare. Restricted services include: 

• Cosmetic surgery where not considered medically necessary
• Services not covered by Medicare unless otherwise specified
• Services where Medicare do not pay a benefit (eg. where patient is not Medicare eligible)
