Going to Hospital

Going to hospital can be stressful and confusing. Remember we’re here to help, not just with health insurance, but even before you get to hospital.

Before going to hospital

Make sure your health insurance is paid in advance so you don’t have to worry while you’re in hospital. Benefits paid will depend on your level of cover, your choice of doctors, where and how you’ll be treated, and the treatment you’ll be receiving.

Are you covered?

Put your mind at ease and find out exactly what you are covered for if you need to go to hospital and confirm that your waiting periods have been served. If you have a blue interim, yellow reciprocal or no Medicare card, some of the benefits in your policy may not be available to you. Call us on 134 246 for more information.

Most of our hospital policies have a co-payment. A co-payment is the daily amount that you pay towards the cost of treatment if you go to any hospital or day surgery. How much do I need to pay »

Where will you be treated?

Your benefits may differ depending on where you’ll be treated. ahm Health Insurance has a network of partner hospitals across Australia, which guarantee your health cover for agreed theatre and accommodation charges. To find a partner hospital, do a partner hospital search »

GapCover

If you have to go to hospital, your hospital cover will take care of the majority of costs for the medical services received while you’re in hospital as long as you’re eligible to be covered for that service and you’ve served all applicable waiting periods. However you can face extra expense if your doctor(s) or specialist(s) (doctor) charge above the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) fee for their services.

The GapCover scheme is designed to help remove or reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses so you pay less towards your specialist treatment in hospital, or pay nothing at all.
