Provider recognition with ahm

From 1 July this year, important changes regarding complementary and alternative therapy providers will come into effect. From this date, private health insurers will only be able to pay benefits to policy holders where the provider meets criteria set out in the Private Health Insurance (PHI) Accreditation Rules.

For ahm to pay benefits for a service from 1 July, our recognised providers must be a member of a provider association or professional organisation that covers the services they perform and meets the requirements under rule 10 of the PHI Accreditation Rules.

To be recognised as a provider with ahm, providers must belong to an organisation or association which has been approved by ahm as meeting the accreditation standards specified in the PHI Accreditation Rules. ahm’s approved provider associations and professional organisations are listed below.

Providers with multiple specialities (for example, acupuncture and naturopathy) will need to be a member of an association(s) which covers both / all of these modalities.

IMPORTANT: Variations in provider details (such as address) given to ahm from provider associations has caused data matching issues during our recognition process.

We have made every effort to ensure the accuracy of our records but we recommend that you search our accredited provider database for your own details. Click here to access our provider database » If your record is listed, you won’t need to do anything as inclusion on this database means that your recognition with ahm will continue from 1 July 2009.

If your record isn’t listed, you should contact the relevant association directly to discuss requirements for membership with them.
